Lecture on Colour at Tufts University, Boston

I was invited by artist and teacher Jennifer Schmidt to give a guest lecture. That evening I had the opportunity to talk colours with her class at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University.

We started with a strong love for Cyan or a very specific longing for Ultramarine blue, preferably when the paint or ink is still wet. And we talked about the powerful combination of red and black and a tickling attraction to artificial green.

Later we dived deeper into the many faces of Riso ink and I showed some of my artist books.

In the end we came to the beautiful point that colour has one deep point of contact with experience and the sharing of stories: poetry. Colours summer, rattle, flow and growl like the words in a poem.

Dear Jenn and class, thank you for this invitation, what a great group you are and what an inspiring teacher you are/have. I felt totally welcome. Thank you all for this exchange!
